Children’s centre steps up security
Posted on 09/02/2010

A children’s centre in West Howe has upgraded its security with help from Bournemouth’s biggest private landlord.

The Fernheath Play Association, which provides vital care to children aged five to 15 in West Howe, including many with disabilities, relies entirely on donations and grants.

Thanks to a £500 donation from Dave Wells Properties, the centre has upgraded its security system, with a new electronic entry.

Paddy Williamson, chair of the Play Association, said: “The donation from Dave Wells is tremendous – having strong security in centres like this is essential to keep children safe and Dave’s support means we’ve managed to upgrade it without reducing expenditure in other areas.”

The centre, which has been running since 1976, is open to children outside of school hours and offers a place to meet, play and take part in educational activities. As well as an after school club the centre offers a parent and toddler group.

Among the children attending are those with autism, attention deficit disorder and epilepsy. In a busy six weeks during the summer its visits total more than 5,000.

Dave Wells added: “Fernheath Play Association plays a vital role in the West Howe community – offering respite to working parents and providing a safe place for children to play and learn.  I’m delighted to support them.”
